Giant screenings in Leeds' Millennium
and City
Squares, a major International
Conference, digital
films in a department store, these are just some of the
landmark events, exhibitions
and publicly sited media that make up Evolution 2001, presented by
Lumen in partnership with the Film Festival.
In an era of global media culture cities remain the centre of changes
in politics, culture, commerce and urban life. Evolution 2001 takes
its inspiration from this matrix of connections and offers a new forum
for the electronic and convergent arts in Leeds whilst embracing future
thinkers and digital pioneers from around the world. The Evolution
programme culminates in a one day conference
(Friday 12th October) which will bring together leading edge creative
thinkers to set new agendas, concepts and questions exposing a broader
local and regional creative community to critical debates and issues
that concern them. The conference will showcase pioneering, avant-garde
approaches to film and technology and place a strong emphasis on creative
and conceptual approaches to interdisciplinary practice on subjects
including architecture, mobile technologies, digital cinema, and gaming.
