Evolution 2008 is excited to be hosting the first performance of Mira Calix's live soundtrack to Augusto Contento's multi award-winning Onibus, commissioned by our partners Opera North.
A window into modern Brazilian culture, the film bridges many genres, a social documentary underpinned by an epic road movie. In developing the new score, Mira Calix took her inspiration from the film's natural flow, Contento's rhythmic editing offering a natural lead for the orchestration, leaving space for the characters to tell their own stories.
Mira Calix (aka Chantal Passamonte) has received glowing reviews for her many projects, not least her live debut at London's Royal Festival Hall, at which she performed 'Nunu' accompanied by The London Sinfonietta, and a glass case of live insects.
Having drawn comparisons with the likes of Brian Eno and John Cage, her third studio album Eyes Set Against The Sun was released last year on Warp Records. She is currently working on new commissions for Streetwise Opera and Aldeburgh Music, and Canal + in France.
